MAG believes that persons deprived with liberty (PDLs) are to be treated with inherent dignity and rights, including the right to health. In observance of COVID-19 health protocols, jail visitations are limited to E-Dalaw where the PDLs can connect to their families and relatives through online platforms. In order to respond to the medical needs and stress relief of partner organizations (including non-government organizations, community-based organizations, and people’s organizations) during the COVID-19 pandemic, MAG has launched its teleconsultation services wherein networks and community partners are able to access medical and stress relief consultation and services through phone and online.
Last May 7, 2021, MAG has conducted virtual medical consultation with the Surigao Del Sur District Jail. This activity was conducted to conduct a follow-up check-up for elderly PDLs, and has in total catered 11 political prisoners and 3 non-political PDLs referral for psychological assessment. Last April 30, 2021, MAG has conducted virtual medical consultation with the Agusan Del Sur District Jail. This activity was conducted to conduct a follow-up check-up for our partner PDLs, and has in total catered 25 PDLs. MAG has been assisted by Jail Officer Rodolfo Sagad Jr., with MAG Member Dr. Benito Molino served as the consulting physician while Ms. Tiff Haban of MAG Services Unit as the documentor.
MAG has conducted mental health education sessions to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) last October 2020.
MAG received hygiene kits and food packs from the International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to be turned over to persons deprived of liberty in NCR jails.
As part of the initiative to assist healthcare workers to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, MAG has donated PPEs to partner areas in Samar, including municipalities of Motiong, Sta. Margarita, Villareal, and Basey.
